Visine Red Eye 15 mL is a widely used over-the-counter eye drop formulated to quickly reduce the appearance of redness in the eyes, most commonly caused by irritation from factors like fatigue, prolonged screen use, exposure to smoke or dust, or minor environmental irritants. Its primary active ingredient, tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride (typically at a concentration of 0.05%), works as a vasoconstrictor, meaning it temporarily narrows the small blood vessels on the surface of the eye, which in turn makes the eyes look clearer and less bloodshot within minutes of application. The product is usually administered by placing one or two drops into the affected eye up to four times per day, though it is intended for short-term use rather than as a long-term solution. While effective for cosmetic redness relief, frequent or prolonged use can lead to a phenomenon known as rebound redness, where the eyes may become even redder once the drops are discontinued.
